Prepare for a Cole Winter. J. Cole took to his website Dreamvillain on Monday night to reveal the title and release date for his sophomore album.
Born Sinner, the follow-up to the Roc Nation rapper’s 2011 debut Cole World: The Sideline Story, will arrive on January 28, 2013.
He posted a teaser video in which a young boy prays at the alter at church. He holds up signs that reveal the title and release date before the lights go off and the music sets in.
Check out Cole’s big announcement below.

Finally!! Someone who has the balls to release their album in January! Not April, or June, or August, or especially November when it’s simple to gain sales! Hip-Hop is off to great start come 2013!

@ayo, No shade towards you b/c I don’t know your fave artists, but if let’s say Nicki Minaj, Jay, Kanye, Em, Drake, or hell, even Ross dropped on the same exact day, units will move regardless. While Cole isn’t the biggest artist out there, at least he’s making risky moves, and perhaps, is doing this just for the sake of pleasing his fans and wanting to get new music released ASAP, not waiting until April when Roc Nation label says it’s okay. If more artists follow, dates like January will be the norm.

@Dan, most big artist avoid january cuz sales r just too low , and i don’t think jcole shud risk it, except he really has a huge single out by den. Jcole will still move respectable amounts but if moved to march or april he can move triple dat amount

@ayo, You are probably one of the very crab niggas who first screamed “Cole ain’t dropping” and then, after the album was released, “Cole gonna flop.”

@Jake, am a big jcole fan and i think he should wait a bit longer before he drops it,his debut did over 200k first week and if he expects to surpass dat he really needs to push the album back a bit, cuz almost no artist does that amount in january. The smart move will be to drop a single nw wait for it to pick up and drop the album march with a single currently doin well and trust me he will do 250k plus

@ayo, it makes sense… though he hasn’t put out a single yet, it’s HIGHLY anticipated. If you noticed, he hasn’t been putting much out (just a couple hot verses, snippets, & productions) but his fan base is still incredibly rising and his last album is still selling. I think it’s a perfect date, not only because the title “Born Sinner” matches perfectly with the date (his birthday), but because not much artist put out albums at the very beginning of the year. Therefore, the sales would be good. I know it’s early, but I predict it will push a good 200-250k first week. After this album, him & K. Dot are gonna drop their collab album, which will help sales for “Born Sinner” and “good kid, m.A.A.D. city… these niggas are taking charge of the game.

Since when did ”fans” become A and R’s and record label execs. Just support what you like financially and stop worrying about sales, i’m sure Jay-z and Roc Nation has more business sense than everyone in here,

I don’t think it will get pushed back at all he knows the fans have been waiting for a long time for this news and I don’t think he will play us like that. Cole said the second album was ready not long after Sidline Story dropped but hes a perfectionist if you want a rapper who puts out songs every week but half of them are garbage then you fckin with the wrong dude.
What a bold move to release the album in January and even bolder move for him to call it Born Sinner you know its going to be a real hip-hop album instead of some of the watered down bullcrap artists have been putting out
As K.Dot said the Jig Is Over AND WE WANT REAL MUSIC!

@dreamvillian, it has nothing to do with him playing with anybody. Push backs are label decisions not the artist decision. If J.Cole sticks to that date he will probably sell well. and even if it doesn’t sell well first weeks fans will buy it over time. But the label is still most likely going to push it back

@miles, I don’t understand why it would not sell though his fan base had almost doubled since sideline story come out also the label would have wanted Cole to release it the summer just past so I doubt they are having that much of a say in the release date I guess Cole stood up to them maybe?

Cole going down as one of the greatest. I don’t care what anybody has to say. This album is going to put Cole where he deserves to be. It won’t get pushed back because the release date is on his birthday.

The good thing is January is right around the corner which means the first single should be dropping in a few weeks. I hope he gets a bigger budget for his visuals and make some dope videos. He proved to Jay-Z that he has a loyal fan base and since he produced most of his song that should coun’t for something when Roc Nation throws some money his way.

ALL I care about is the quality and growth in this next sophomore…I think Cole knows that he needs to knock this one out the park especially after his debut was decent but not what people expected of him.
the release date seems to be somewhat to soon from now but whatever. Cole needs one helluva banging single to get the word out for this album or its down the drain for him.
Grammy’s are more worth than any album sales or mainstream acknowledgement. Cole knows that and people should too.
