New Music: Drake – ‘5AM in Toronto’

5AM in Toronto

Drake doesn’t hold back on “5AM in Toronto,” produced by Boi-1da and Vinylz. The Canadian MC took to Twitter late Wednesday to unleash the introspective record, on which he spits some real and rapid-fire rhymes from the heart. He addresses his position in hip-hop and gives the middle finger to those who underestimate his movement.

“I’m the only ni**a still known for the music/ I swear, fuck them ni**as this year/ I made Forbes list, ni**a/ Fuck your list, everything’s looking gorgeous/ Without me, rap is just a bunch of orphans,” raps Drizzy, who was ranked #5 on MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game” list.

Prior to the release of his debut album Thank Me Later in 2010, Drake dropped “9AM in Dallas,” proving to the doubters that he’s here to stay.

@carlos, Basically, Drake is behind The Weeknd’s success. He was the one who first tweeted the House of Balloons mixtape link to the world. Fast forward to May 2012 – Drake told MTV that a deal was in the works – possibly suggesting Abel was signing to the OVO imprint. Fast forward to September 2012 – Abel signs to Universal and the OVO imprint signs with Warner. Abel had 4 back to back shows at Toronto (when Drake was there) and Drake didnt go. Which is strange because he has ALWAYS supported him! he didnt even show any support when the triology came out.

Face it, they’re not on good terms.

Drake’s 5AM IN TORONTO is Drake’s best lyrical song in a little while. Drake pretty muched dissed Pusha T, The Weeknd, Chris Brown, DMX, Lil Kim, Common, and everybody he has had beef with over the last 2 years. My two favorite lines of this song is ” Give these niggas the look, the verse, and even the hook, That’s why every song sound like Drake featuring Drake, and ” A couple albums dropped, still on the shelf, bet them niggas would have popped if I was willin to help”. Those lines are Drake’s hardest verses in a minute. Those are Drake’s best verses in a little while. Drake seems to have the confidence that Jay-Z had, when Jay-Z was very young and gifted. It’s going to be interesting to see what direction Drake goes in with his new album “Nothing Was The Same” coming out this year.
