New Music: Angel Haze – ‘Echelon (It’s My Way)’

Angel Haze

Angel Haze has been building her buzz with her mixtapes and freestyles. Now the New York rapper takes it to the next level on “Echelon (It’s My Way),” the first single off her upcoming debut Dirty Gold. She spits about her fashion game, bank account, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen on the flashy track.

“Fashion Week I’m out here slaying/ Dressin’ like all the latest/ You know my money long, everybody sing this song,” she raps.

@Oh, As a Nicki’s fan, I would LOVE that there would be more successful female rappers so Nicki can have competition and, therefore, bring the best.

However, I just don’t feel any other female rapper to be at the level of Nicki. I think Angel did good in this one, but she doesn’t bring any feelings to me.

I don’t understand why Angel, Iggy and others (if there are others) haven’t success. They are either too lazy or bad.

@Andy, Azealea beefed her way out of a lot of potential circles. Part of her probably doesn’t want that kind of backing anyway(admirable). Musically, over 78% of her music sounds like she’s doing an experiment and showing it to the world. Some of it is good, but Most of it? not so much for the American scene. Also her flows sound very repetitive. Her style is unique, but not very versatile.

Iggy is a beautiful girl. She’s gotten better lyrically, but she is bottom of the totem poll as a rapper. Pop appeal is there, but she has to work on her lyrics. She also doesn’t relate well to a lot of people bcuz her Australian accent can be heard through her southern accent & a lot of people assume she’s just very fake or inauthentic, when in reality they don’t know that she moved from Australia at a young age with no help & no family. Just a dream. So of course her accent is altered to merge between the two since she lived int ATL.

Angel Haze needs to step up her PR. I gotta admit Azelea was slightly smart in taking the 50 cent route in keeping up her hype, but she overdid it. In fact, Azealea’s beef with Iggy is why I listened to Iggy. Same for her beef with Haze. But Haze is barely a factor. She spits legit, but what else is there behind it? I can’t see a lot of her personality & what I do see seems forced. Mami from Detroit, but that don’t mean copy Aaliyah’s look. I don’t know how much time she spent in NY, but she abuses their slang & talks like them…..but it aint working for me bcuz I knw where she’s from. So i need some authenticity to add to her lyricism. She’s dope in that way, but that personality is on the fence for me.

NONE of them are as successful because Nicki literally pushed the bar up VERY high for female rap. You can say she didnt, you don’t like her, she’s wack, etc. But the truth is the truth. She pushed that bar up high & now it’s a double edged sword because what people forget is Nicki’s hustle to get there. Nicki grew without competition so it made her shine brighter.Nicki is winning because
    A. The girl is VERY smart(business&lyrically).
    B. The timing of her entrance into the game was impeccable. None of the veterans were doing anything when Nic came in other than Trina. So the game became an empty race track to Nicki. She ran 12 laps & her stardom blew up. The other girls took note & hopped back on the race track. Some out of spite. Others out of inspiration. Though it’s a double edged sword because they’re still not proper competition. Nicki ran 12 laps around them & they’re just now gettin on the track.
    C. VERY VERY unique personality. Unlike the girls before her, Nicki didn’t try to sound like a boy when she rapped. She rapped as hard as one when she wanted, but never tried deepening her already high pitched voice. She’s the girliest girl in the industry. So to add to her talent as a rapper, the timing of her entrance, & the intelligence, She was a breath of fresh air by being herself & kept an authentic hood edge to that.
    D. Unmatched untouched ambition as a femcee. She could’ve given up on her first two mixtapes that only had minor success. She could’ve never started because the doors were closed to femcees at the time. But she pushed & pushed. She pushed to get Wayne’s backing. She pushed to get features & flipped it into being #1 in demand for songs. She pushed her way into the pop lane. She pushed to become the 3rd most successful black female entertainer of the decade right after Beyonce & Rihanna.

@STAN THE FAN, I love what you did there, nice analysis of Iggy, Angel and Banks, and I couldn’t agree more. Its so true that she pushed the bar TOO MUCH HIGH. Now any female rapper that wants to enter the game is immediately being compared to Nicki. Of the four things you said, all are true, specially the last two. I’m glad you write all this, have a nice day!

She sound like an old, better Eve with a little Nicki in there. I can dig it. Not feeling the hook. At least not her rap during it. I like that one little singing part….But I want her to up her game so she can be worthy of a Nicki Minaj feature

@STAN THE FAN, I think her game is perfectly fine. She’s in her own lane and doesn’t need to be “worthy” to get a Nicki Minaj feature. She’s already doing impeccably well without one.

@.,and Nicki is doing well without any help from these b-tches none of them gave her a hand some pave the way yes but thats were all the help stop,it,s everyone for there selves.

    STAN THE FAN Reply:

@K, It don’t have to stay that way though. Nic can solidify herself as savior of female rap if she start doing with worthy girls what Wayne did with her.

@., She has her own lane but it’s in the back….She’s barely a factor amongst Iggy or Azelea. She’s gotta up her PR, authenticity, & showing her personality
