Rick Ross, Pharrell, & Ashanti: First-Week Sales Predictions

Rick Ross, Pharrell, and Ashanti

Rick Ross, Pharrell Williams, and Ashanti all released new albums this week, but who will be No. 1? First-week sales predictions are in.

Mastermind, the sixth album from the Maybach Music boss, is expected to dethrone Schoolboy Q and debut atop next week’s Billboard 200 with 145-160,000 copies, according to HITS Daily Double.

The album, which features Kanye West, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, and The Weeknd, was released digitally a day ahead of its original March 4 date.

This will give the Miami rapper his fifth No. 1 album (2010′s Teflon Don debuted at No. 2). His previous effort, 2012′s God Forgives, I Don’t, topped the charts with 218,000.

Fresh off his performance at Sunday’s Academy Awards, Pharrell’s second solo album G I R L is set to open with 85-95,000 in its first week. He will battle with Disney’s Frozen soundtrack for the runner-up spot.

Meanwhile, his Oscar-nominated single “Happy” remains No. 1 for a second week on the Hot 100.

Ashanti is also set to return to the charts with her fifth album Braveheart. Her first project since 2008′s The Declaration, released independently via her label Written Entertainment/eOne, is on track to move 18-21,000 units.

Final chart numbers will be released Wednesday, March 12.

Ashanti can do much better than that. Has she even been on any tv shows/radio stations to promote the album? And I’m not talking about 106 & Park or Power 106 or The Breakfast Club.
She should be on Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Good Morning America etc! Promo promo promo

@chris, can YOU do better?? How about you promote her then!

    JHP Reply:

@chris, Ashanti is independent now so she’s not going to get as good of a promotional push as she would have back on Murder Inc. Her singles were non-existent on the charts and radio, she hasn’t dropped an album in 6 years, and most importantly, she’s long out of her prime and not too many people are checking for Ashanti in 2014. I’m not trying to disrespect or play her or anything, I would love to see her come back, but that’s just the reality of the situation.

@JHP, I agree, but technically she isn’t independent because her label is an imprint so I’m sure she could maybe get some funding for promo?

    Santana Reply:

@chris, Technically, she is independent. She owns the label you speak of. She has done and funded this whole project all on her own.

@JHP, I respect you for being honest. A lot of people are going to try and bash her and put her down but you were being straight forward and uplifting.

Thank you for supporting her! She deserves it!

I want Ashanti to win so bad. 20K is not bad for an indie artist but Ashanti has garnered way more.

However, I will continue to support. Bought two copies of her album after going to several Targets trying to find one because they were sold out. On twitter, a lot of people been saying that their Targets sold out of her album fast. That could mean something.

Hopefully she sells more than 20K. So far, her album is #1 on iTunes R&B Charts and #13 on iTunes overall.

Wish you the best Ashanti!! Love You! #Braveheart #TeamAshanti #GoHards

@NIK, All that was unnecessary she FLOPPED point blank period. Go out and buy more of her album because you’re seething.

@NIK, she flopped you like it or not. Her fans claiming she’s the best but where are they when it comes to sales? She has 1.6 million followers and not even 2% of them bought the album. Sad. The album is actually good tbh.

Damon, I though pharrell was going to do at least 200k and beat rick ross. Wanted pharrell to win. Even his first album did better.

Damn, Pharrell’s album deserved to do at least 100K in its first week … mad dope. He should’ve won that Oscar too!

That is not bad for Ashanti! She did not have much radio play for this album at all, but that just goes to show what reputation, a decent independent record label, and a quality album can do for you.

I love the album. I had pre-ordered it from Amazon! I love it. The songs are amazing.

Ashanti’s new album is way too good to only sell 20,000. The album is great, her vocals are on point and production is perfection. People are sleeping on her!

Ashanti is actually going to sell more than I thought. 20,000 copies is not bad for an album that got pushed back for over two years and doesn’t have any hit singles. I give her a lot of credit for being independent and still making good music. She’s definitely a champ in her own right. I’ll always support her! I bought my deluxe copy at Target!
