Angie Martinez Resigns From Hot 97, Joins Power 105.1

“The Voice of New York” has left the building. After 25 years at Hot 97, Angie Martinez has announced her resignation from the radio station.

She conducted her last show on Wednesday and penned a farewell letter explaining her decision.

“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show ❤️ stay tuned…. Love, angie.”

Martinez, 43, began as an intern at Hot 97 and went on to host “The Angie Martinez Show,” interviewing superstars such as Kanye West, Jay Z, and Mariah Carey.

She most recently appeared on Hot 97’s VH1 reality show “This Is Hot 97” and is a correspondent for “Extra.”

Some of her famous friends and peers wished her well. “No way! @angiemartinez,” tweeted Nicki Minaj, while John Legend added, “New York will miss you, Angie! You are an institution!”

There are rumors that she’s headed to rival station Power 105.1, home to “The Breakfast Club.”

UPDATE: Power 105.1 has confirmed that Martinez will join the station. She will take over the afternoon drive weekdays from 2-6 p.m. starting in mid-July.

“I’m excited to join Power 105.1 in New York and The Beat in Miami and expand my brand even further in the coming months,” she said in a statement.
