Jay-Z and Rihanna

When Rihanna first got a taste of success, Jay-Z gave her some advice that she’s carried with her ever since.

In an interview with Touré for “On the Record with Fuse,” RiRi shared her former Def Jam boss’ advice. “In the beginning of my career, I remember ‘Pon De Replay’ started doing really well, and he came up to me at a showcase and he said, ‘You must be a really great person because great things keep happening for you. Don’t every change who you are, always remain humble, the same,'” she said.

The superstar, whose career soared to new heights after her first hit, will never forget Jay’s words. “It kind of rings in my ear. Every day I hear that and it stuck with me. I have a lot to be grateful for.”
