John Legend celebrated his birthday and the 10-year anniversary of his debut Get Lifted at a private party at Catch in NYC last night. The R&B crooner, who turned 36 last month, was joined by his wife Chrissy Teigen and some famous friends including Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Robert De Niro, Katie Couric, Estelle, and Michael Strahan.
Q-Tip worked the turntables and the birthday boy was presented with a cake in the shape of a piano as guests sang “Happy Birthday.”
Looking dapper in a Balmain tuxedo jacket, Kanye got on the mic to toast his longtime friend, who he called a “gentleman” and “a very well-mannered human being.”
“I’m tryna get some pointers from him and stuff. I don’t want to be the Phil Spector of hip-hop or anything,” joked ‘Ye.
After its release on G.O.O.D. Music in December 2004, Get Lifted won a Grammy for Best R&B Album and spawned the piano ballad “Ordinary People.”
