Robin Thicke Performs 'Back Together' on 'GMA'

  /  08.12.2015

Robin Thicke returned to television on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday (Aug. 12). Looking dapper in a three-piece suit, the R&B crooner had the studio on its feet as he performed his Nicki Minaj-assisted single “Back Together,” while backed by a full band.

He also chatted with Robin Roberts about his five-year-old son Julian, his new outlook on life, and the legal battle with Marvin Gaye’s estate over “Blurred Lines” (The judgement was recently reduced from $7.4 million to $5.3 million). While he wasn’t at liberty to discuss details, he thanked his fans for their support.

His soulful ballad “Morning Sun” is about “fresh starts and new beginnings,” but “Back Together” is not about his ex-wife, Paula Patton.

“I didn’t write this song, so I can’t take credit for the meaning,” he said of the Max Martin and Savan Kotecha production. “It’s more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership.”

He was able to take a few months off and spend time with his family to clear his head. “I spent so much time with my son and that made me realize what’s most important.”

Thicke will continue his promo tour with stops on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Thursday and “The Late Late Show with James Corden” on Aug. 19.
