Kanye West's 'SNL' Backstage Meltdown Audio Leaks

  /  02.17.2016

Less than a week after Kanye West’s star-studded performance on “Saturday Night Live,” audio of Yeezy’s epic backstage “tantrum” has leaked.

In the audio clip released by Page Six, the rapper calls Taylor Swift a “fake ass” and gets upset with “SNL.”

“Look at that shit. They took my fucking stage off of ‘SNL’ without asking me. Now I’m bummed,” he says. “That and Taylor Swift fake ass. Now I ain’t gonna do this. We breakin’ the motherfu**ing Internet. I went through six years of this fu**ing shit. Let’s get to it, bruh. Let’s get to it, bruh.”

Kanye was upset because “SNL” producers removed nearly half of his stage ahead of his performance, according to TMZ. He had been rehearsing on a larger set and was so upset by the change that he threatened to walk off until the show’s creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels calmed him down.

West goes on to claim that he’s more influential than anyone in the history of the world “dead or alive” by “50 percent.”

“Are they fucking crazy?” he continues. “Bro! By 50 percent. Stanley Kubrick, Apostle Paul, Picasso, fucking Picasso, and Escobar…By 50 percent more influential than any other human being. Don’t fuck with me! Don’t fuck with me! Don’t fuck with me! By 50 percent. Dead or alive. By 50 percent for the next thousand years.”

Following the leak, Kanye’s camp issued a statement on the recording.

“He did not yell at ‘SNL’ staff,” the rep said, according to Complex. “This audio was secretly recorded while he was venting his frustration in a private moment with his team. He found out his stage design was changed and taken apart under the direction of the show’s lighting director without anyone’s approval. He had spent an entire day rehearsing and a lot of hard work went into the performance. Dramatic set changes were made 30 minutes before going live. It should be understandable why he was upset after being completely blindsided.”
