Listen to an Unreleased Jay Z Freestyle from 2000

  /  07.07.2016

In honor of Throwback Thursday, fans are getting a chance to hear an unreleased Jay Z freestyle from 2000.

The Tim Westwood-released clip finds Young Hov back when he still had the hyphen in his name, spitting about his days in the streets. “My persona,” he raps in the clip. “Hustler turned rapper, smell the crack aroma / Send shots like toma / In any language.”

The vintage flavor and nostalgic aura is all over this one with references that some might not catch today. “Ya’ll actin’ like ya’ll better than Hov,” he rhymes. “Ya’ll cats should open up for ‘The Letterman Show.'”

Some of these rhymes come from other works by the “I Got the Keys” MC, including “Jay-Z Freestyle (Who Shot Ya)” off DJ Clue’s The Professional 2. Others have been used on other platforms like Sway & King Tech’s “The Wake Up Show.” Still, here’s a blast from the past with the man who might just be in talks to sell TIDAL to Apple.
