Kanye West Responds to Class Action Lawsuit Over TIDAL Exclusivity

  /  07.18.2017

Kanye West is responding to a class action lawsuit filed against him by fans who say that he conned them into purchasing TIDAL memberships.

Last year, Kanye declared that his LP, The Life of Pablo, would be a TIDAL exclusive forever. “My album will never never never be on Apple,” he tweeted at the time. “And it will never be for sale… You can only get it on Tidal.”

When The Life of Pablo appeared on all other major streaming services, a fan named Justin Baker-Rhett filed the class action suit against West, JAY-Z, and TIDAL, saying that listeners were bamboozled into “paying for TIDAL’s rescue.”

West now says that the TIDAL version of Pablo is different than the one on other streaming platforms, according to TMZ. He cites another tweet as proof of these changes. “Life Of Pablo is a living breathing changing creative expression,” he tweeted in March of 2016. “#contemporaryart.”

Kanye is asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

But this isn’t the only legal issue that surrounds West and TIDAL. In fact, earlier this month, it was revealed that West left the streaming service over a financial dispute. JAY-Z, who brought him on as a co-owner, has reportedly threatened to sue him as a result.
