New Music: Young M.A. - 'Praktice'

  /  03.23.2018

Young M.A. takes on Allen Iverson’s attitude on her latest freestyle “Praktice.”

Over an instrumental by Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson and Buda & Grandz, the “Ooouuu” hitmaker raps about her grind with money on her mind. “Fuck these hoes, fuck these broads, I don’t got no time,” she raps. “Do you see my pockets? I’m doing just fine.”

Later, the nonchalant MC explains why she’s not interested in others at the moment. “I don’t pay y’all no mind; I just pay my bills,” she raps. “No Netflix and chill, I get checks and chill.”

The song’s title comes from an infamous Allen Iverson press conference, which took place in 2002. “We’re talking about practice,” he said. “…I know it’s important. I do, I honestly do. But we’re talking about practice, man. What are we talking about? Practice? We’re talking about practice, man? We’re talking about practice. We’re talking about practice. We ain’t talking about the game. We’re talking about practice, man.”

The press conference quickly became controversial and also iconic. Eminem, Mac Miller, Chamillionaire, Action Bronson, and others have all referenced Iverson’s “practice” remarks on various tracks. Post Malone also did this on “White Iverson.”

Young M.A. is now working on her long-awaited debut album.
