Judge Denies Meek Mill's Bail Request

  /  04.02.2018

Meek Mill remains behind bars. Judge Genece Brinkley has denied the rapper’s request to be released on bail.

Her new ruling follows an outpouring of support for the Philadelphia rapper.

“This ruling from Judge Genece Brinkley simply reaffirms the fact she has turned Meek Mill’s case into a personal vendetta,” Meek’s attorney Joe Tacopina told TMZ. In the past, Tacopina has argued that Judge Brinkley has a personal bias against the MMG MC.

“In spite of the recommendations from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, which was supported by Governor Tom Wolf, the judge continues to stand alone in supporting Officer Reginald Graham’s perjured testimony as well as his criminal behavior that has been documented,” Tacopina added.

Judge Brinkley has not addressed the case in public. Through court documents, she has said that there’s no reason for her removal from the case. She also contends that there’s “zero evidence” of her asking for a shoutout in a song. Meek’s team has made that claim multiple times.

The judge gave Meek Mill a 2-4 year sentence for a probation violation last year. Some believe this punishment was too harsh, but the judge defends her stance, saying it was his fifth probation violation. In the past, he also reportedly failed to follow travel and drug restrictions.

Meek Mill’s legal team plans on appealing Judge Brinkley’s latest ruling to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
