J. Holiday's Valentine's Day Playlist

Candles? Check. Roses? Got ’em. Champagne (or sparkling cider for the junior macks)? Chillin’ in the fridge. The only thing missing now is that perfect playlist to spark up some romance on Valentine’s Day. But J. Holiday has you covered.

A strict student of the old school, the R&B singer who put you to “Bed” suggests sticking to the subtle stylings of soul legends. R. Kelly and Pretty Ricky do have a way of heating things up, but we’re opting for a sweeter, more refined soundtrack. J. Holiday gives us a little commentary on his picks, proving that this Valentine’s Day, class reigns over crass.

“If This World Were Mine” – Luther Vandross feat. Cheryl Lynn

“You gotta play this at slow dance time after dinner. You might be at a nice little lounge where you can dance if you want to. You could ask the DJ to play this song and then you take her to the dance floor.”

“Sexual Healing (Instrumental)” – Marvin Gaye

“For some background music during dinner, it can just be some mood music; someone on the piano playing something nice. This is definitely a classic.”

“My Heart Belongs to U” – Jodeci

“When it comes to the after-hours, I would play Jodeci. I’ve been listening to Diary of a Mad Band a lot lately. So it would probably be that album playing real soft in the background.”

“Run Into My Arms” – J. Holiday (off Round 2)

“I never play any of my own music in the bedroom, but I would definitely suggest that other guys do. It’s basically telling a female, ‘I know you’ve got trust issues but if you’re looking for that knight in shining armor, you have to be open.'”

“Rock With You” – Michael Jackson

“When it comes to rockin’ to something on the dance floor, something more upbeat, you get into the Michael Jackson. Either ‘Rock With You’ or ‘P.Y.T.’”

J. Holiday will release his sophomore album Round 2 on March 10 featuring the single “It’s Yours.”
