Jay-Z is speaking out in support of gay marriage. Following President Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage last week, the Roc Nation mogul has weighed in on the hot topic.

“I’ve always thought it as something that’s still holding the country back,” the rapper told CNN during a press conference for his “Made in America” festival in Philadelphia. “What people do in their own homes is their business. You can choose to love whoever you love. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple.”

He responded to critics who claim it will cost Obama votes in the upcoming election. “I think it’s the right thing to do, so whether it costs him votes or not… Again, it’s not about votes, it’s about people,” he explained. “I think it’s the right thing to do as a human being.”

When it comes to his music, Mr. Carter doesn’t have any immediate plans to head back into the studio following the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy Carter. “I thought that I would after my daughter was born. I thought I would be more inspired with all the new feelings and everything that I’d have to write about, but it really happened the other way,” he told MTV News. “I just really wanna hang out with her. I just wanna enjoy those moments for a bit and I’m sure that feeling of music will come back to me.”

Jay-Z will join Kanye West on the European leg of the “Watch the Throne” tour, which kicks off May 18 in London.
