Janelle Monáe and Verdine White

The NBA paid homage to the Big Easy with a funky halftime performance from some hometown superstars at Sunday’s All-Star Game. New Orleans native Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue kicked things off followed by blues icon Dr. John.

Gary Clark Jr., who performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” on guitar earlier in the evening, shined with “Bright Lights” before introducing Janelle Monáe.

The Electric Lady served up the title track off her latest album and joined the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire for the rousing finale of their ’70s classic “Shining Star.”
