Prince Records Song for Baltimore

  /  05.01.2015

Prince is speaking out. In the wake of the unrest in Baltimore, the pop icon has recorded a new song that addresses the killings of young black men and the socio-political issues around the country.

According to a press release, Prince’s song is a tribute to “all of the people of the city of Baltimore.”

It was recorded this week at Prince’s Paisley Park studio in Minneapolis, but it’s unknown when it will be released.

Prince is not the only artist speaking out following the uprising in Baltimore. Beyoncé posted a message on her Instagram account and her website, writing, “People are hurting.”

She has also teamed up with the NAACP to help in the cleanup efforts and to provide housing, food, and supplies to those affected by the unrest in Baltimore.

Others including Joey Bada$$ and Wale joined thousands of protestors in New York City and Baltimore following the death of Freddie Gray, who was killed while in Baltimore police custody.

Gray’s death has been ruled a homicide and six officers have been charged with several counts, including second-degree depraved-heart murder, manslaughter, and second-degree assault.
