Common Reveals Plans for New Album

  /  04.15.2016

Common’s eleventh album is on its way. The rapper, whose film Barbershop: The Next Cut opens in theaters today, says he’s ready for his next LP, following 2014’s critically acclaimed Nobody’s Smiling.

Common broke the news earlier today while on “Live! With Kelly and Michael,” saying he’s thrilled to be collaborating with two esteemed musicians on his next album.

“I’m so excited,” he revealed. “I’m working on a new project, a new music project with this great, talented producer named Karriem Riggins. Man, I just feel good about the music. And Robert Glasper, whose a great musician, pianist. I’m working with them. I’m just excited about it.”

Com worked with Glasper on 2013’s “I Stand Alone” off Black Radio 2 and has performed with Riggins several times throughout the course of his career. Fans will also recognize Glasper from his work on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly and Riggins from his recent Kanye West collab “30 Hours.”

Although Common has been acting, he hasn’t stepped away from the mic completely since his 2014 effort. In fact, he recently teamed up with Ice Cube on “Real People,” a call for peace crafted by former foes turned friends. The Chicago MC is also set to join a star-studded cast of acts on the upcoming Hamilton Mixtape.
