Lauryn Hill Reveals Why She Didn't Perform with The Weeknd at Grammys

  /  02.15.2016

Lauryn Hill was rumored to join The Weeknd for a performance at tonight’s Grammy Awards, but the joint set didn’t actually go down. In a statement to the press, a rep for the eight-time Grammy winner explained why Hill was a no-show.

“The Grammy’s announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval,” said Hill’s rep. “Ms. Hill had concerts all weekend, leaving no time to prepare, and was uncertain she would even be able to make it to L.A. in time to rehearse for the event.”

“Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such,” added the rep. “Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition.”

Hill wasn’t the only one who pulled out of the Grammys. Rihanna also called off her scheduled set per doctor’s orders.

Sans L. Boogie, The Weeknd still lit up the Grammy stage with “Can’t Feel My Face” and “In the Night,” singles off his Grammy-winning album Behind Behind the Madness.
