Sampha Covers Solange's 'Cranes in the Sky'

  /  07.03.2017

After collaborating on “Don’t Touch My Hair,” Sampha puts his soulful spin on “Cranes in the Sky,” another standout from Solange’s critically-acclaimed album A Seat at the Table.

During a special Glastonbury Festival performance for BBC Music, the British crooner remained true to the original’s lyrics, while offering a different take on the music. Over his own piano keys, Sampha delivered a somber, more mellow rendition of the track.

Sampha showed love to Solange on the broadcast, admitting that he hadn’t run the cover by her yet. “I worked on her album and she’s wonderful,” he explained. “Hopefully she’s alright with it.”

Solange wasn’t just “alright” with the cover—the Grammy winner said she cried upon hearing it. “crying,” she tweeted. “sampha your voice and soul are unmatched.”

Aside from “Cranes in the Sky,” Sampha also performed his own single “Blood on Me” off his debut album Process.
