Alicia Keys & Maren Morris Perform 'Once' at the Grammys
Alicia Keys and Maren Morris blended genres and wowed the crowd at Los Angeles’ Staples Center during the 59th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 12). The R&B songstress and country singer performed “Once,” a standout from Morris’ debut album, Hero, which was released last year.
In a shimmering and revealing outfit, Maren started the performance before Keys emerged in a sparkly, body-hugging, low-cut jumpsuit. Below elegant chandeliers and backed by a soulful live band, they performed a revamped version of the Hero highlight.
As a 15-time Grammy winner, Keys joined a newcomer in Morris, who won her first gramophone this year. The country star’s “My Church” won her the Best Country Solo Performance trophy.
Keys wasn’t up for an award this year, since her latest album Here was released after this year’s Grammy submission deadline.
This performance shouldn’t have come as too big of a surprise since Morris and Keys have a bond that goes deeper than the Grammys. In December, they also appeared together on an episode of “CMT Crossroads.” “We are both up for any challenge,” Keys told Rolling Stone of that performance. “Maren does her style and I do my style and they blend so well together. You don’t hear a note and think, ‘That’s a rock note and I like it because it’s a rock note,’ You don’t care what note it is, you just want to feel it and feel great.”
Watch them blend their styles once more on the Grammy stage.
