The Game Celebrates 38th Birthday with New Freestyle

The Game celebrates his 38th birthday with a new freestyle, aptly-titled “38 Special.” The a cappella rhyme, which he shared on Instagram, is a stream of consciousness clip broken into three parts, backed by a Hennessy bottle and a candle.

“I used to think rapping at 38 was ew,” he raps. “Until I turned 38 and I’m still rapping still.” The line calls back to JAY-Z’s “The Prelude,” in which he says, “I used to think rappin’ at 38 was ew / But last year alone I grossed 38 mill / I know I ain’t quite 38 but still / The flow so special, got a 38 feel.” At the time, many believed this was a clap back at Game, who asked “You 38 and you still rapping?” on “It’s Okay (One Blood).”

As Chuck Taylor’s freestyle continues, he speaks on a variety of topics, including his rival, Meek Mill. “Fuck jail,” he raps. “I wouldn’t wish it on my enemy.” He also brings up sexual allegations about famous women. “Told Kanye that there would be no more drama,” he raps. “I smashed everything except Nicki, Bey, and Rihanna.”

Game resumes the freestyle with a laundry list of rappers he listens to on various occasions, including JAY-Z, Nas, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, André 3000, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, J. Cole, Boosie Badazz, Chance the Rapper, Cardi B, and SZA.

At one point, Game also addresses generational feuds within hip-hop. “Too many old ni**as hating on the new ni**as,” he raps. “Bitter ’cause their time passed, who the fuck is you, ni**a / New ni**as got the whole game locked up / Fuck with ’em, get your old ass socked up / They talking pills, we was talking crack / They sipping lean, we was choking on Yac / Poisoning ourselves, letting the money stack / Different generation but ni**a, it’s all rap.”

The Game released “Oh I” with Jeremih, Young Thug, and Sevyn Streeter back in October. He is reportedly prepping for his next album, West Side Story, the follow-up to last year’s 1992.
