Three Men Indicted in Mac Miller's Death
Three men arrested in connection with Mac Miller’s deadly overdose have now been charged with providing the drugs that killed him.
On Wednesday, a grand jury in California federal court indicted Cameron Pettit, Stephen Walter, and Ryan Reavis of conspiring and distributing cocaine and oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl that caused the Pittsburgh rapper’s death. All three men were previously charged with drug-related offenses. Wednesday’s charges add the allegation that their drugs led to Miller’s death, reports the AP.
Prosecutors say that instead of getting oxycodone on Sept. 5, 2018, the pills Mac received were counterfeit and contained fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid 50 times more powerful than heroin. According to TMZ, Mac allegedly crushed the pills, snorted them, and died.
All three men are charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances resulting in death, and distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. Each charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and the potential for life without parole.
Walter is also charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition and faces up to 10 years in prison. He was previously convicted on a drug distribution charge.
Miller was discovered unresponsive in his Studio City, Calif. home on Sept. 7, 2018. The Coroner ruled his death as an accidental overdose due to mixed drug toxicity of cocaine, alcohol, and fentanyl, which is considered the number one cause of overdose deaths in the U.S.
