Roddy Ricch Performs for NPR's Tiny Desk Concert

Roddy Ricch brings the Tiny Desk home.

The Compton rapper was originally booked to play the NPR series in June, but after the pandemic, he had to make other plans and instead performed a stripped-down set from famed auto garage West Coast Customs in his hometown of L.A. Backed by 1500 or Nothin’, Roddy delivered a four-song medley of hits from his chart-topping debut Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.

Playing the keyboard, he kicked off his 15-minute set with “Perfect Time” followed by “Bacc Seat” on which he was joined by special guest Ty Dolla $ign.

“I’d like to welcome y’all to Tiny Desk aka Tiny Garage,” said the 21-year-old MC while sporting sunglasses in the dimly-lit room. “I’m at West Coast Customs. This is a legendary spot.”

He followed it up with his Mustard-produced hit “High Fashion.” “My next song, I really just describe the type of relationships I like to be in,” explained Roddy. “I like to be in high-fashion relationships, I like to buy a lot of Goyard, Saint Laurent, and shit like that. I like to be fly, I like shorty to be fly.”

He capped it off with “War Baby,” while addressing the state of the world. “It’s a lot going on in the world. A lot of times I stay off the internet, I don’t really like to be bothered,” he said. “But this is a crazy time we’re living in. It’s a lot of negativity going on and on a positive note, I just want to appreciate my people for standing together in a time like this.”

Roddy continues to shine. His “Rockstar” collaboration with DaBaby remains No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth week.
