T-Pain Fires Back at Critics Over Michael Jackson ‘P.Y.T.’ Remake

T-Pain and Michael Jackson

T-Pain is striking back at his critics after receiving backlash for remaking Michael Jackson’s 1983 classic “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” for Quincy Jones’ tribute album Q: Soul Bossa Nostra. Teddy P. sends a message to the haters and also reveals that he recorded the Auto-Tune-heavy song at the request of the legendary producer and King of Pop himself. Read his rebuttal below.

For all the ppl that hate mr for ruining pyt just stop listening to my shit. But if Quincy jones tell you he want you to do something, no matter how much shot you know ur gonna get from the dumb asses in the world, you god damn do it. The fucked up thing is everybody being so kind to mj after he’s gone, but how can you wish a man to rest in peace when you never gave him peace in a life time? I had the pleasure of meeting MJ and when I left his house I got a call from his lawyer telling mr that MJ wanted me to remake that song. So everybody that’s being overly disrespectful, you don’t have to like me at all, but you also can keep that bullshit to yourself. Like I said I’m making it my job to stay positive on twitter but this is why the image of my ppl is so fucked up cuz we all are to envious and jealous of each other to get passed anything. In conclusion, if you don’t like what I do then stop listening to it, if somebody tells you that my shit is wak, why would you go and try to find it? Just stay off my timeline and my dick and get YO shit together, obviously I’m str8 yasimelike

I feel what he’s saying and this goes with every artist. Why do you “haters” continue to attack artist you don’t like, but are the first to listen to their music or whatever. When you dislike something or someone you don’t bother paying it any mind, correct?

Yes T-Pain! Finally someone telling it like it is. So many fuckin haters out there its fucking ridiculous!

That’s why people are branded “haters” because every time they gotta jump on and be negative about an artist they supposedly don’t like. If you don”t like something keep it moving.

    Okay, here’s some points:

    1. I don’t listen to your shit, Mr Pain. I listened to the track because I love the song and I wanted to see how Robin did. Hearing that audio partial-birth abortion that you called a vocal performance was just collateral damage.

    2. You can politely decline the request. Tell Quincy you didn’t think you could do proper justice to the track and be done with it.

    3. You’re not “staying positive on twitter” if you fly off the handle every time somebody doesn’t like your song. I don’t think it’s in the musician handbook that every piece you attach your name to should be showered with adoration and respect. Every musician has made crap in their lifetime. You just have a higher concentration of it in your discography.

    4. Jesus be a speak and spell. We’ve got to do better, people, because tawlkin’ lyk dis is stupid. You’re a grown man. Stop it. Nawmean?

    5. You are not important enough in the grander scheme of things to have “haters”. Obama, Martin Luther King, Muhammad — they all have/had haters. You make songs about having sex to rap music and falling in love with a stripper; you’re lucky people still remember your name, let alone still hype you up on blogs.

I’m so sick of the defensive ass “artists” we have nowadays. Personally I can’t wait until rEVOLVEr goes quadruple food stamp and we never have to hear from this hack again.

First, T Pain: LEARN ENGLISH! Second, if you show me a video where MJ tells YOU that he wanted you to butcher his songs, i would NOT believe it. MJ is the greatest Entertainer in the world and he would not stoop that low to pick up someone like yourself. You would say anything now that he can’t respond. And what kind of a rebuttal is this? Are you insulting us? If you knew MJ fans, you would check your rebuttal! Take your remikx and stick it where sun doesn’t shine. That goes to QJ who is a “friend” of Michael! We all know MIchael’s greatest enemies was his “friends”! PEACE!

I hate how everyone is quick to bash an artist when they are covering a song by a legened. Just because the original artist made these song legendary, doesn’t mean that they can’t be reinvented or reinterpreted by other artist. If an artist wants to cover a legendary song and make it their own, they should be able to without idiots making dumb statements. I can’t wait for the day when someone can cover a Mariah, Whitney, or MJ song, without it being a taboo thing to do…

Common, you definitely well know that if it has something to do with Michael you would absolutely be talked about, and that’s what you wanted (a little publicity for yourself). As a life long fan of Michael Jackson I’m going to respectfully disagree with your ill-prepared and very badly written rebuttal about your cover of ‘PYT’.

Fact – The original is perfect, flawless and timeless.

Fact – Your cover has none of those qualities and all of the synthetic auto-tune sound of today’s trendy music.

Fact – You do not are artistically inclined enough to know that your lack of talent ruins songs by great entertainers like Michael Jackson.

False – Quincy didn’t hold you hostage and make you record the song. You did it because you wanted to honor Michael and that’s fine, but your limited in the talent department to try and fill Michael’s loafers.

So call me a hater if you want… And I defintely will not listen to it again and have plans to boycott its release or sale but I’m giving my two cents respectfully… So take it or leave it!

All these fools can come up with is the word “Hater” or “Haters” NOBODY has to like the shit you put out that u u call music which is GARBAGE. Hell T-Pain needs to WAKE UP and REALIZE not everyone is gonna like your music. Especially for recreating a CLASSIC that should have NEVER been TOUCHED in THE FIRST PLACE. Quincy Jones I don’t know what the hell he smokin but c’mon putting T-Pain on a Micheal Jackson song? Smh… what has the music industry has gotten into? People have the RIGHT to dislike a GARBAGE song. We live under the Constitution. I’m 18 years old and I GREW UP listening to Micheal Jackson and this fool gonna come up with a lame excuse calling people “haters” I’m not a haters because the song is garbage but U want me to get into it because you’re on a Micheal Jackson classic. Just stop your music. I loved the song only because of Robin Thicke. The reason why I listened to the song was because Robin Thicke is my fav singer and you just happened to be on it. I did not listen because YOU was on it. YOU are not good at all T-Pain, so shut ur fat ass up and stop the Auto-tune crap, were sick of it. And stop featuring in songs that are potentially a hit, you only bring it down with your fat ass.

Well, I edited him out of the track which made me even more pissed. The song sounds so much better without him on it. Why when you have Robin Thicke, a man Michael personally chose to open for him for two shows on his “This Is It” tour, would you let T-Pain butcher the song? It is clear that this was all T-Pain and you guys just threw Robin Thicke on there. So the man that actually can sing is the afterthought. That’s just pitiful.

While I possess the personal notion that no single Michael Jackson song should ever be covered, ESPECIALLY with AutoTune, it doesn’t change the reality that EVERY SINGLE THING T-Pain typed in that response is overtly true. He makes an extremely valid and valuable point and deserves respect for even stepping in the booth, knowing that he couldn’t do the song any amount of justice.

I have not been a fan of T-Pain at all, but I will say after reading what he typed in this letter, I have unwavering respect for him as a person right now.

And I also liked T-Pain in the Lottery Ticket. Natural acting skills.

what bothers me is t-pain is untalented. He cannot sing, and he is not an overly creative writer. That is why he uses auto-tune like the world is going to end tomorrow. I don’t like T-Pain, his music, or his persona. he does not deserve to be a recording artist, but he had earned it by working hard. And that should shut everybody else up, including me. But it doesn’t, so I still really, really dislike T-Pain.

Teddy Pain is right, he is absolutely positively right. I don’t have a problem with T-Pain, I bought the last two albums he dropped, and they were dope, as was his Pree Ringz mixtape. I merely didn’t like his particular contribution to the PYT remake because it was over auto-tuned, and just sounded plain horrible in all honesty. If Pain drop another hit, I’ll bump it, if it’s whack, I won’t. But it’s not that I dislike him, and I sure as hell, ain’t gonna go on one of his videos, and waste my time, just 2 state that he’s garbage, and ppl who do that need 2 Pain, or any artist for that matter, need a life

but are people being a “hater,” simply because they think something is bad. what if then, after months or years have passed and the songs or artist go into complete obscurity, were the “haters” right? and what about the “supporters” who truly never supported the artists that fell off the face of the Earth? these are questions one must think about. yes, some people are just negative. but just because don’t like something and you’re being honest in your critque, doesn’t mean you’re a “hater.”

T-Pain got WAY outta hand with AAT on that shit. I agree that his vocals on that shit are unlistenable. And I like T-Pain, but for whatever reason he set that Retune to like -100, lol. Robin Thicke killed it, though. He actually sounded alot like Mike.

With that being said, the only problem I have with T-Pain’s statement, besides his lack of proofreading, is how he says Mike (lol, not even Mike really, Mike’s lawyer) asked him to remake the song. I’m not saying that’s not true, but who heard about this before Mike died? This is like Nas saying he and Tupac squashed their beef before Pac died. Both could be completely true, but they could also both be bullshit.
