Rap-Up.com || Dr. Dre Plans to Take a Break from Music

Detox will have to wait. Dr. Dre is planning to take a brief break from recording, once again delaying his long-awaited album.

“I’m gonna just wrap it up for a minute because I’ve been working on music for 27 years now and the longest I’ve ever been out of the studio in 27 years has been two weeks,” the hip-hop icon told FADER TV.

But that doesn’t mean he’s hanging up the mic. “I’m never gonna stop music. It’s like air to me,” he added. “I’m gonna take a little bit of a break, enjoy some time with the family, until I get that itch to get back in.”

While Detox is not on his priority list, the business mogul has been spending his time promoting his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and working on developing his artists Slim the Mobster and Kendrick Lamar.

Stop making excuses, its obvious that he knows that after like 10 years in the making, most of Detox is dated and he knows it wont survive in this music market. He couldve chose a better excuse though, I mean a break, he’s was gone from 2001-11

Sad because there were a lot of people out there looking forward to the new CD… maybe he should release it and then take a break… I mean come on man where have you been in the last 10 years, not in the studio making your own music! Life must be really hard for him, millions of dollars, amazing head phones (listening to songs on them now), good business, great songs.

Release the album then take a break. This is probably one of his dumbest career choices.

I think Dr. Dre is one of the top 15 greatest hip hop producers of all-time, and arguably the greatest hip hop producer of all-time, but Dr. Dre fell off after he made two classic hip hop albums in The Chronic, and The Chronic 2001. Dr. Dre has been surpassed by Kanye West, The Neptunes, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and a few others over the last nine years. I think Dr. Dre knows that he can’t produce another classic album that would fit with today’s mainstream hip hop. It’s sad to see that Dr. Dre is using an excuse, talking about taking a break from music when Dr. Dre hasn’t made an album since 1999. To be honest with everyone, Dr. Dre has been on a break for the last eleven years, and hasn’t released any new solo music. People have lost interest in Dr. Dre, he waited too long to try to put out new music, and he got older as the music industry changed, and Dr. Dre didn’t know how to change with the new times of the music industry. If I was Dr. Dre, I would produce other people’s songs, but I wouldn’t put out any new albums, since its pretty clear he can’t get passed the old times of his career.
