@Ice, He isn’t “trying to hard to be different” He is different from the normal bullshit R&B nowadays which is good because r&b these days are repetitive and boring.
You must be some young in aren’t ya

@Shade, I’m 19 and you must be deaf if you don’t think that all of The Weeknd’s music sounds repetitive. What I mean by “trying too hard to be different” is that he is too experimental and gets so caught up in his artistic vision that most people wouldn’t relate to his music. I guess he’s more concerned about setting the mood rather than telling a story because half of the time he is distorting his voice or mumbling.
All that aside, Echoes of Silence was my favorite of the trio and I’m not trying to say that he’s horrible, just misunderstood I guess.

@Ice, Wow you real are deaf dude he ain’t experimental he just has his own unique style something you are to simple to grasp I suppose =/
And if you don’t think he is telling stories with his songs then wow…..wow….wow…are you really even listening? The distorted and “mumbling” ? It’s ad-libs hums he is making music. I don’t see the dream getting album review half as good as the weekend…and who says you have to relate to his music? Everyone has different experiences. You don’t have to relate you just have to understand and I guess his life is to wild for your boring life to comprehend. Sorry get some new experiences brah

@Shade, I agree, and sorry for calling you deaf. Who am I to critique your taste in music. It’s too close to Christmas to be having silly fights over the comments. Some artists don’t naturally click with everyone, and I do love a few of The Weeknd’s track (like What You Need), I just need to listen to him more often and give him a try.
Merry Christmas

@Ice, whaaattttt???? You have to know about the weeknd. If you don’t take drugs you probably won’t relate to him. His motto XO means xtacy and oxycodone and ALL of his songs are about drugs and drug addiction but they sound like relationship songs the last song Echoes of Silence is actually about a girl overdosing at the end of his story. So he’s not trying to be different, he’s just being himself but hiding it a little so only his real fans know what he’s talking about and understand him;)

People only like him because of Drake.
The Weeknd is a knock-off The-Dream. At least The-Dream is more versatile and real with it. All The Weeknd songs sound the same.

@trillafood, absolutely wrong.
Abel > Aubrey. You’re uneducated to even compare the two, honestly. And Terius? Tuh.

@trillafood, I partially agree, The-Dream is my favorite artist and I have heard the comparisons since Abel first came out. Honestly, I can’t find many reasons to compare them, but I can say that The-Dream is better, imo. At least I can relate to Terius, I can barely understand what The Weeknd is saying.

@Shade, Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I’d rather not continue to argue on a blog over who’s realer, it’s pretty immature and for that I apologize. I agree with Frank, though, “realness” is a quality that is opinionated, as a matter of fact, that definition of “real” is even real. lol.
Anyways, have a blessed Christmas

Listen you fuckers. No reason to compare Weeknd and Dream. The Weeknd listed The Dream as one of his major influences along with R. Kelly and Static Major.
If you download this tape, you’re getting one of the greatest pieces of art 2011 has to offer. The Weeknd and ILLANGELO are definitely not amateurs by any means.
