Rap-Up.com || John Legend Gets Engaged to Model Christine Teigen

John Legend’s music is a staple at weddings and now the R&B crooner is ready to walk down the aisle himself. The “Ordinary People” singer is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, model Christine Teigen.

“John Legend and his girlfriend, model Chrissy Teigen, got engaged over the holidays while vacationing in the Maldives,” Legend’s publicist, Cindi Berger, told PEOPLE.

Legend, 32, took to Twitter to thank his fans for their congratulatory messages. “Thanks for all the well wishes everybody,” he wrote, while Teigen, 26, joked, “He went to Jared.”

Before they tie the knot, the couple will celebrate the new year in Las Vegas. Legend has a show at The Pearl at the Palms on New Year’s Eve.

@CL, I don’t think that your comment was disrespectful, but I’m so tired of hearing about this. Just look at her… I can immediately see why he finds her an attractive woman. I am a black girl, but people need to stop obsessing over race. Christine Teigen is a beautiful woman, I don’t know her personally, but she must’ve done something right for John to propose to her. If it really would’ve been about her race/complexion, he could’ve gotten so many other beautiful women. But he chose to spend the rest of his life with her. That has to say something.

I am so damn tired of seeing so many black entertainers and sports players hanging on to white women. What is this? And I agree, most rich black men want and marry a white woman. All too often, the woman marries, then divorces him and is financially set for life. There are so many beautiful black sisters out there. I don’t understand it. She may be part Thai but by all standards she is a white women.

I am trying to figure out why brothas hate themselves so much that run to women of other races. I think they want what they see on TV to desire something that is forbidden. White women break in there 30s. We don’t crack until well in our 50s and 60s. There is nothing more beautiful than black love. On the flip side, sistas need to take better care of themselves and workout. We are conforming to what we see on TV by wearing wigs, weaves, and fake eye lashes. We have also lost our confidence in who we are. Men love confident women, no matter what color they are.

It’s ironic that discrimination is so apparent in the statements by my fellow black peeps and we are the culture that have fought to be free of discrimination. Culture differences are a strength, skin color and what ever other preferences are developed through struggles, experiences and many times it just doesn’t matter. It’s about whom the person is as a person…
Please get over the fact that black men choose to marry or be with whom they are attracted by and to. I have dated all cultures but to commit she has to be able to edify me and me her rather black, white, wrinkles or disabled.
