Rap-Up.com || New Music: Brandy & Monica – ‘It All Belongs to Me’

Fourteen years after topping the charts with “The Boy Is Mine,” Brandy and Monica reunite on the highly-anticipated follow-up, “It All Belongs to Me.” Described by producer Rico Love as a “very soulful R&B song with pop sensibilities,” the ladies take a different approach from their 1998 single, kicking their men to the curb on the empowering tune.

“It is not anything like ‘The Boy Is Mine,’” explained Monica. “At this point, this is where you’re taking your power back and we gon’ come together. This is totally different than that era and I hope it speaks to all the people who are making diss tracks and going hard on each other. Come together and watch the numbers move.”

Brandy added, “This business is all about competition. They forgot about what is the most important, which is two talents coming together. It’s just great to come back and do something with [Monica]. This is definitely a blessing.”

Two different versions of the song will appear on Monica’s album New Life, due Apri 10, and Brandy’s RCA/Chameleon debut, due this spring. A video, directed by Chris Robinson, will be shot on February 13.

@Carl, I agree and I’m a fan of both. I think Jazmine Sullivan would’ve killed this though. Not sure how I feel about Monica’s new project. I was hoping for something more like “Still Standing”. I’m not sold on any of the singles so far. I guess this will have to grow on me.

I agree 100%! Monica and Bran sound good but this is to kiddie for women in their 30s! Jaz is in the age group where the lyrics are better suited for her and her fans. Its a Bey knock off with a weak beat and dumb lyrics! These women have been through a few things so I was expecting grown up R&B. It will not grow on me and im sad to say as a Monica fan of 14yrs it makes me not look forward to New Life.

As a woman most women stop putting up with ridiculous amounts of things that men do in their 30′s bc the fully have grown up and their mindset is not equipped to play games anymore i think this is perfect for their age group. I do think that Jazmine Sullivan could have killed but I want something different for her too. I wouldn’t say it’s a bey knock off either if that’s how you feel i think rico love is to blame not monika or brandy. I think it’s different. I hope you don’t see this as coming at your opinion bc i’m not i’m respect it whole heartedly.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t really moved by it. The thought of a sequal to Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” seemed promising, but listening to the finalized product, it just didn’t live up to the hype of what Rico Love proclaimed it to be. These producers need to stop tryna create history by re-creating past hits because it obviously backfires. Just make good music. Brandy should have went to Rodney for the second installment, not Rico Love, his focus is elsewhere with other artist anyway… -____-

Song should’ve been arranged better, to much stop and go with a gorgeous melody like this it should be ever flowing.
This almost sounds like a melody and the expletive is not needed it really mess up the beauty of the song aswell.
These two ladies have amazing vocals, they need to continue the collabs. I like it, but don’t love it.

I don’t know what the hell some of you are listening to but im listening to GREATNESS, people put expectations on others that they don’t even put on themselves, its ridiculous, vocally this song is everything, the beat could have been better but both women rode the beat beautifully (especially brandy) I swear its not pleasing people, they should have been talking about sex, then maybe some of you would have loved it, thats what Kelly had to do to get a hit in your eyes so i guess these VETS in the game will have to do the same……gtfoh, this IS a good song.

To be relevant on the mainstream, you have to talk about today’s topics…And everybody is on MacBooks and Facebook, just like how they sing about them in this song. Beyonce did a song called “Videophone” talking about sending hot pics. In her song with Alicia Keys “Put It In a Love Song” they sing “text me on my cell phone.” Didn’t Beyonce do a song with Gaga called “Telephone” as well? Hell, even in DC’s “Bug-A-Boo” they mentioned AOL and pagers if I’m not mistaken. It’s just a sign of the times for today’s culture.

I really enjoyed this song. I think this song will get a lot of criticism because people’s expectations were SUPER HIGH but I wasn’t expecting it to top “The Boy Is Mine.” I’m satisfied.

These girls did an amazing job!!! Good job Brandy & Monica I love how Brandy harmonzied on the background and how she came in and I also love her soul on the bridge. I’m a huge B-Rocka fan (I shall rock with Brandy for life) – but I must be honest, I think this track is “OK”. I listened to it two days ago, and it still isn’t stuck in my head. I don’t think it’s a “sticky” or memorable song – especially as a duet. It’s nice, but that’s it. It doesn’t seem to be set apart from what’s already out there… Hopefully Brandy and Monica have another song up their sleeve. Either way, I’m gonna support them! :)

Lets just lay it all out.
1. Although it was meant to sequel the boy is mine, It was not done for the sake of surpassing the boy is mine. I mean its amazing just to hear the growth in both of their vocals. Shyt i was hoping they wouldnt be talkin bout men at all in they next duet but somethin deeper, hell they coulda talked about love or some shyt But thank god i really do love this track.

2. They didnt write the song. Do i Love it, Yes. BUT I personally think brandy and monica coulda sat down together for a few hours or days or back in forth for a few weeks and wrote a better one, and had someone, dark, tim, bcox hell, yhall coulda had B AMES SLAY YHALL A BEAT! (i mean i love ames version on creole by bey and bobblehead by christina aguilera.)But forreal i think its different i can hear it on the radio, specially in the morning when you on yo way to work or leaving or cruisin.

3.I think the Video is gonna be similar to boy is mine, and i think if its a killer vid, and the song has a chance to kinda win you over after a minute, it could be huge for them and another notch to brands belt, considering who shes workin in the studios with for this 6th, I mean it could be the added bonus collab to a bunch of hits which is what im honestly hoping for. Im positive this cds gonna be amazing and id rather her push it back and give me amazing360 percent top seller top notch quality than to give me a cd that i wouldnt remember next year.

4. it is a song that will honestly grow on you, as i rehear it, i learn to love and appreciate it more as I hear it cause i hear something new each time. and they play the hell outta it, i think ppl will be so acclimated to hearin it, theyll find they asses singin along even if they dont like it lolol.

5.Now, ……… AND TO THE COCK EYED BYTCHES TRYNA GO IN ON BRAND AND MONICA, FOR ONE, YOUR SHADE WAS MORE LIKE A DULL SHADOW. I heard the song on Jay Leno and I was like what are they saying. The song did not make sense then and now since I have listened to it several times it’s not good. It seems rushed and that beats reminds me of the Queens beat We Are The Champions really it does. I feel as if Monica is just repeating the words and thats it. Like Brandy and Monica but this song is not that good. I know they are trying to relive there hay days of the Boys Is Mine, but this does not do it for me…I was expecting Brandy to do something mature. Thumbs down. ;(
