Rap-Up.com || New Music: Ester Dean – ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’

Ester Dean has written hits for everyone from Beyoncé to Kelly Clarkson, but she takes on Bonnie Raitt’s 1991 hit “I Can’t Make You Love Me” on what’s being called the first single off her upcoming Interscope Records debut Story Never Told. The singer-songwriter belts over a synth-heavy dance beat.

“‘I CANT MAKE YOU LOVE ME’ NEW FUN ENERGY!!!!!!!!! MY FIRST COVER EVER!!!” tweeted the Pitch Perfect star.

Ester had previously announced that Missy Elliott would be featured on the lead single, “How You Love It.”

I really hope this song gets thrown back into the pits of hell where it was formed. How to ruin a classic? Nothing against Ester Dean, but this is just lazy. You damn can’t and WON’T make us love you with THIS. God bless.

@James, LMBO!!!! I know I love Ester but I don’t like this at all. I think she was trying to be fun and different with it but you just made a classic sound like everything else on the radio… That can be a good or a bad thing overall but for me, it’s bad. I LOVE Tank’s cover of the song because he stayed true to the emotional content of the record. But I just commented here because your first sentence really made me LOL.

I don’t know why ya’ll hating on Ester when she clearly wrote hits for all ya’ll favorite singers so don’t be putting her down just cause she wants to do something different and out of the box with it… and think about it… all these hits she bringing ya’ll and ya’ll wanna say she ain’t got it, check this out… she wrote hits for Beyonce, Rihanna, etc… and if you think about it those are her songs…she wrote those hits….so all ya’ll just find something else to hate on thats actually worth hating on because this is just gold coming from her!!!!!!! You do your thang Ester…I love you….

P.S. she also wrote “Drop It Low (feat. Chris Brown) which later on became a Top 10 hit on bilboard so how she don’t have it when she has it all and then some!!!

She HAS to do something different. SHE developed Rihanna’s entire musical sound. ONLY RIHANNA CAN PULL OFF THIS SOUND. No one else. I know poor Ester probably put to much of her own originality in Rihanna, but now she’s gotta create an entirely different sound.
