Kid Cudi Splits with G.O.O.D. Music

Kanye West and Kid Cudi

G.O.O.D. Music just lost one. Kid Cudi has parted ways with Kanye West’s label.

Cudi made the official announcement during his appearance on Yesi Ortiz’ show on Power 106.

“I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music,” he revealed. “[Kanye and I] were talking on the phone the other day and these are things I’ve been wanting to talk to him about me starting my own direction and he got it because you know, he’s trying to start his new path and try new things as an artist and he was just like, ‘Man, I feel you as an artist. It’s cool, whatever.’”

He made the decision six months ago, but no one on G.O.O.D. Music knew until now. “This is just from a business standpoint. There’s no beef. There’s no problems with anybody on the label. It’s all love.”

The door is still open for future collaborations with Big Sean, Pusha T, and the rest of the gang. “That’s not a bad thing. That don’t mean I’m not gon’ be making music with them. It just means that lil’ baby with that dress on ain’t gon’ be on my album,” he said, referring to the G.O.O.D. Music logo.

He consulted with Kanye’s manager Don C and Jay-Z before approaching ‘Ye. “I knew where I wanted to go and then it was like trying to figure out what the right decision would be, how to talk to him about it. I went through a process where I talked to Don C and then I went and talked to Jay-Z and got their opinions about how to approach him about things that I wanted to talk to him about. And everybody gave me the blessing.”

Going forward, he plans to focus on his own label and artists. “I wanna focus on Wicked Awesome, I wanna focus on [King] Chip, and that’s it. I don’t want to have a full label of artists. I just wanna work on Chip and keep my sound going on the Cudi train.”

Indicud, Cudi’s first album since parting ways with G.O.O.D. Music, will be released on April 23.

@™ Better than Pusha T? Nah i dont think so. G.O.O.D. Music has a really good roster dont put Kid Cudi on this pedestal when there are other artists on that label better than him

@™, Teyana Taylor is the only one that fits other. She’s gorgeous but her music is so bland. It lacks real fire, passion or innovation. She’s GORGEOUS but so basic. She bores me to tears and it hurts because I wanna like her (musically) soooo bad but I can’t. She can dance her ass off tho, but I don’t see her capitalizing on that because if you can’t sing & dance simultaneously live I don’t see it for her.

Kid Cudi didn’t do himself any favors, he did alienate himself alot of times, but Kanye isn’t the type of person to build artists or even do alot of assisting anymore it was all good back in 09, 10, but lately not so much. Kanye has only produced two songs for Cudi (Sky Might Fall, Make Her Say). All good things must come to an end, no pun intended.

I can’t stand idiots that claim that Kanye is not all that anymore, the last album was awesome, he takes his time with his music and he always brings something new to the game, stop being idiots. clearly everyone is cool with the decision and things are good between them, at least Kanye recognized the need for others to grow. Good luck to him. Patiently awaiting Kanye’s new album.

I saw this coming. But I didn’t know who it was that would leave G.O.O.D. Music. Massive loss for Kanye.

Kanye seems to be one blind bat since Kim came into the picture.

@Coco, i agree, and these days artist like cudi dont need a label, he can be like waka and get all his money no need to split his check three ways.

I don’t believe it was a huge loss for Kanye West at all. People need to remember that Kanye West’s last solo album” My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” was a great album, and won 4 Grammy Awards. G.O.O.D. Music record label has never been very popular with the biased mainstream media. G.O.O.D. Music record label never had all their songs played on the radio more than Y.M.C.M.B., M.M.G. and other record labels. You can make the arguement that Kanye West needs to do a better job promoting his artists, but for the most part, the only music artists on G.O.O.D. Music that people really cares about right now are Kanye West, John Legend, Pusha T, and Big Sean at the moment.

Kid Cudi is a talented music artist, I always felt that Kid Cudi didn’t fit in with G.O.O.D. Music records. Kid Cudi has the potential to be successful by himself. Kid Cudi’s last 2 albums were both certified gold, so Kid Cudi does have a fanbase, even if it is a small fanbase. I really hope that Kid Cudi turns out to have bigger success in the near future, because I always felt that Kid Cudi is an underrated talent. I give Kid Cudi credit for having the courage to leave G.O.O.D. Music records the best way he could.

I think it is good for him, kanye is a horrible boss. He let cruel summer flop. They should have went on tour or something to really introduce his artist.

lol to everyone saying that cudders wasn’t “that good” or “didn’t fit” must not really understand his music. as for his assistance with g.o.o.d, let us not forget the entire SOUND BITE that kanye west essentially did with 808s & Heartbreaks. that was and still is cudi’s sound and even kanye west praised cudi for his musicality. if anything kid cudi was one of the main artists kanye actually appreciated and loved unlike said teyana taylor which nobody still knows her involvement in the group. i think leaving the label was a good move for cudi as he wanted to do his own thing although kanye does allow for his artists to do so…within reason of course (cues fashion choices made during the cruel summer days). i think that cudi will still work with everyone from the group and everything will remain the same, just a different business move. no beef, it’s just business. as for those talking about YMCMB…..you’re still losing and will forever lose. don’t base everything off of music sales but quality music….but if you want to do that too, pull up waynes ‘IANAHB2′ first week sales. i’ll wait.

    lol sorry for this rant

GOOD has got the best roster in the game by far and too bad Cudi isnt a part of that anymore. I hope he will appear on Kanye’s next album though. A lot of GOOD’s artists are highly unterrated, its good everybody appreciates Kid Cudi.
