Kelly Rowland Leaves Label, Starts ‘Fresh’ with Fifth Album

Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland is getting a fresh start. The “Motivation” singer has left her label and is working on her fifth studio album.

She returned to the studio last week to begin recording the follow-up to last year’s Talk a Good Game. “It’s been wonderful so far, a fresh new spin on everything, with writers, producers, just being inspired, just creativity,” Kelly told “HuffPost Live.”

The new music, which encompasses horns, drums, and flutes, was influenced by iconic female singers including Diana Ross. “I’ve been inspired by the queens that have gone before us, incredibly strong women who aren’t afraid to take risks and just be innovative,” said Kelly.

The recently-engaged star, who is the new face of Caress, also confirmed that she has parted ways with Universal Republic after two albums.

“I feel like right now, I just needed something new and I’ve earned the right to make my own choices and make my own decisions,” said Kelly. “I wish them well, they wish me well. No hard feelings, I just needed a fresh, new start.”

She hasn’t decided on her next move. “There are different offers on the table,” she said. “I just want to see what it feels like. I’m just in the studio on my own and just having a really good time just being creatively free.”

In addition to music, she has been reading scripts and wants to venture into acting. “The time is here and I’m ready.”

Hopefully THIS album will be called Year of the Woman (still think it was a HUGE mistake to drop that name from TAGG).

    amian Reply:

    @Shutterbug, I agree

    HUGE Mistake!!!

    Deejay Reply:

@Shutterbug, No I always thought year of the woman was an extremely corny title. She was smart to change it.
Next album should be good tho.

    Shutterbug Reply:

@Deejay, “Talk a Good Game” is a HUNDRED times as corny as you say “Year of the Woman” was.

  2. JD

I’m interested to see how this all turns out.

    hannah Reply:

@JD, She thinks she is Ashanti now that no company wants to be bothered with her. She too dark for JZ label.

  3. txgirl

so she was dropped then … good luck girl

    Harry Reply:

@txgirl, are you seeing things…she said she left..unless im reading the wrong article..nonetheless congratulations on your new moves Kelly!!

    fas Reply:

@Harry, she didnt say that, she just talked around. of course shes not going to admit it, but he being dropped that was the original rumor a month ago so its probably true. mediocre music and bad sales

    N Reply:

@fas, What do use to define mediocre music- Kelly last album has some SOLID songs that could be listen to over and over again (well that’s me).

  4. Ha ha

Kelly Roland is such a loser!

    marie Reply:

    @Ha ha,

After the soap companies lose money on her, beyonce will get her a job sweeping up.

  5. Got Damn

    I’m sorry, who?

  6. h

Maybe a move to Young Money? Or Atlantic – she could be the female Trey Songz.

or Rca… They seem to be signing everyone under the sun.

  7. Kyle

“Talk a Good Game” was her best album yet IMO. She is definitely heading in the right direction. I’m excited to hear what she does next!

  8. DaKidd

Is It Me Or She Trying To Be Like LeToya Luckett!!!

    donicia Reply:

@DaKidd, you would think by now, at her age, and time in the industry she’d have her own identity, but she constantly moves between trying to be like the great Letoya or the great Ciara.

Everyone knows that she was DROPPED like the no talent she IS and needs to do something else. Maybe she can clean out Beyonce’s caboose Hee Hee.

She has no offer on the table with her lieing azz. She’s going to try independent like Ashanti, but Ashanti is talented, beautiful, and is a very sweet person, so that wont work for this bish right here, unless she changes her sorry ways.

Marrying that pinocchio long nose silly looking manager of her’s just to get publicity wont help either.

    DaKidd Reply:

@donicia, Its Not That She Is Not Talented It’s What You Said She Cant Find Her Identity & She Lazy. She Needs A Whole New Team, New Management, She Needs To Write Her Own Music, Stop Talking About Beyonce IN Every Interview, And Promote Her Own Music Not Always Depending On The Labels and Beyonce.

    dana Reply:

@DaKidd, Future made her sound good in Neva End. he wrote that. The lyrics to that Ice was just plain stupid,

“i dont want to feel my legs, just your hands all over me” what the heck does that mean? And put an ice cube on my navel…

stupid lyrics dont make sense. Beyonce has no interest in helping her. With $350 million and all kinds of employees she could make her, her opening act, but she wont even do that.

  9. teetee

kelly seems genuinely sweet but no 1, i say no one is checking for her. maybe the carter’s need a new nanny?

  10. N

I just hope that we hear a different kind of Kelly on this album. Personally, if her albums don’t sell the fact us that Kelly is an amazing catalog of songs.

  11. katy perry

kelly is boring and a flop. she will never slay like beyonce yawn!!!!

    marty Reply:

@katy perry, why wont beyonce hire her to open for her? Seems she might be qualified for second fiddle, but I guess not.

Future is the only one who made her sound half way decent on a record.

I hope and pray she doesn’t try to touch Diana Ross music. Her voice in no way sounds like the melodic Diana.

Talk a Good Game was such a great album and I feel like people slept on it. I hope this next album goes great!

  15. Javis

smh at hate comments bu we’ll c miss kelly

  16. YannaB

Why everybody hating on kelly I would love to see one of ya fill her shoes for a day!!!! And stop comparing her to Latoya Lucky and Ashanti she smashes them by a far

    trina Reply:

Are you kidding me? Letoya has proved she is one of the greatest actresses ever, and singers, and model figure.

Ashanti has prove she is a QUEEN and great beauty.

Kelly Rowland has proven nothing but that she is only qualified to be beyonce back up singer. That’s it.

  17. Whatcha_Sayin

Talk a Good Game was a brilliant album! Much better than the mess that was Here I Am. Kelly is talented! Its not the music that didn’t make her sell, it’s the management and the marketing.

    dana Reply:

@Whatcha_Sayin, that’s a lie. she got way too much radio time on my radio, and still didn’t come close to gold.

  18. Starlet Williams

@donicia, flat out you should go in your bedroom and end it, bc ur obviously miserable to say such HORRIBLE things

  19. Starlet Williams

Misery LOVES company and clearly ANYONE is gonna have more HATERS than supporters. ROWLAND is SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL clearly inside and out. This woman is amazing and stunning sooo super talented its not even funny. The human race will always b band wagon riders and never stand for the pure and wonderful. All the b riders trust when I say Beyonce wouldnt spit on you if you were on fire.

    mary Reply:

    @Starlet Williams,

Sweet? Ha Ha! there she go again fantasizing she is a sweet talented girl like keyshia cole or ashanti, or monica, or letoya.

the fool kelly is always wanting people to criticize beyonce for not helping her, but we havent saw that jerk with letoya or any of those early destiny child members. the rest of them got NO help. at least bey gave her a little help, that she could have paid forward to the other girls but this nasty jerk is all about herself just like beyonce.

  20. Starlet Williams

And she aint NEVER trying to be like Ciara or Letoya youre a. Idiot for saying such an asinine thing really

  21. doris

She looks like a fool with Ciara’s blonde bob in that black shade.

When copying beyonce didn’t work, she went to copying ciara.
