Kendrick Lamar Leads 2017 MTV VMA Nominations

  /  07.25.2017

King Kendrick is set to rule the MTV Video Music Awards. The Compton kingpin leads the 2017 nominees with eight nods.

The Weeknd and Katy Perry are tied for second place with five nominations apiece, it was announced today.

This year, MTV has decided to replace the Best Male Video and Best Female Video awards for a non-gender-specific Artist of the Year trophy. Kendrick Lamar is up against Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Lorde for that award.

K-Dot’s “HUMBLE.” also has steep competition for Video of the Year. Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic,” Alessia Cara’s “Scars to Your Beautiful,” DJ Khaled, Rihanna, and Bryson Tiller’s “Wild Thoughts,” and The Weeknd’s “Reminder” are up for that trophy too.

Meanwhile, in the Best Hip-Hop category, “HUMBLE.” faces off against Big Sean’s “Bounce Back,” Chance the Rapper’s “Same Drugs,” D.R.A.M. and Lil Yachty’s “Broccoli,” Migos and Lil Uzi Vert’s “Bad & Boujee,” and DJ Khaled’s star-studded “I’m the One.”

“HUMBLE.” also received nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography.

Fans can begin voting for their favorites now through MTV’s VMA website.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
