Snoop Dogg and Hip-Hop Come Under Fire

Snoop Dogg and the Archbishop Don Magic Juan appeared on “TRL” today. Snoop has come under fire recently in the aftermath of Don Imus’ comments. On “Oprah” yesterday, former Essence editor-in-chief Diane Weathers singled out Snoop, saying that he should have his contract revoked because of what he promotes in his lyrics. Snoop told MTV recently, “It’s a completely different scenario. [Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We’re talking about ho’s that’s in the ‘hood that ain’t doing sh–, that’s trying to get a n—a for his money.” Hip-hop power players including Russell Simmons and Common appeared on Oprah’s show today to defend hip-hop.
