J. Cole stopped by the Fuse studios in New York City to talk shop with host Touré for an interview that will air July 21 on Fuse’s “Hip Hop Shop.”

Jay-Z’s protégé shared that he was nervous when writing his verse for Jay’s “A Star Is Born” while his boss and his famous wife remained in the room. “It was him and Beyoncé when I had to write that verse. She left the room and a little while later he finally left and I was like, ‘Phew! Let me finish writing this verse,'” Cole told ITN. Despite their daunting star power, the Roc Nation signee said, “They are really regular people. You’d be surprised.”

J. Cole’s debut album is due October 26 and features the single “Who Dat.”
