Soulja Boy Lands Spot on Forbes' 'Hip-Hop Cash Kings' List
Soulja Boy hasn’t hit the legal drinking age yet, but he has surpassed his rap counterparts by millions. The heavily-tattooed rapper landed a coveted spot on Forbes magazine’s “Hip-Hop Cash Kings” list.
The MC, who quickly made a name for himself back in 2007 with the self-produced hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy),” earned the No. 18 position on the list, tying with rapper T-Pain. The publication reported that both artists brought in a whopping $7 million last year.
Soulja Boy expressed his jubilation over the accomplishment, which he learned of after randomly coming across the list. “To tell you the truth, I just seen my name on there,” he told MTV’s RapFix. “I was like, ‘Damn, I’m on the Forbes list. Like swag.’ Everybody’s talking about it, my whole city, my whole hood, and all that.”
As the head of Stacks on Deck Entertainment, the young rapper hopes to move past his hip-hop peers in 2011 and land a position in the top 10. His earnings have been a result of his success in the music industry, yet Soulja Boy plans to expand his empire in the coming years.
“Once I jump into movies, that’s a whole ‘nother check,” he said. “That’s what I’m shooting for. My next avenue, you know after music and stuff, is breaking into Hollywood.”
