Lil Wayne and Birdman

As soon as Lil Wayne is released from jail later this week, he will go right to work. His mentor Baby discussed the projects that Weezy will be working on, including a sequel to their joint album and the long-awaited Carter IV.

Birdman outlined plans for a follow-up to their 2006 collaboration Like Father, Like Son. “We’re planning on putting that out Father’s Day weekend,” he told EW.com. “[We’re] bringing that Cash Money/Young Money sound, that traditional hard-body rap, the music that we do together—that gangsta shit, straight up.”

Tha Carter IV probably won’t arrive until the first quarter of 2011, but no release date has been set. Wayne won’t waste any time getting back to the studio upon his release. “I think after seeing the family, popping a few bottles, it’s back to basics,” said the Cash Money chief. “Family first, that’s what we believe in, that’s what we’re loyal to. After that, I think the same day he comes home, he’s going to go straight to the studio.”

Also on deck for 2011 are albums from Jay Sean, Bow Wow, DJ Khaled, Tyga, Lil Twist, and more. Drake’s sophomore set will likely drop next summer. “You never know with Drizzy—[the album will be done] whenever he’s ready,” added Birdman.
