Frank Ocean Threatened with Lawsuit Over 'Hotel California' Sample

Frank Ocean

Don’t expect to see Frank Ocean perform “American Wedding” at Coachella in April. Eagles founder Don Henley has reportedly threatened the Odd Future singer with legal action if he performs the “Hotel California”-sampled song live.

Ocean’s version, which appears on his 2011 debut Nostalgia, Ultra, borrows from the Eagles’ 1977 classic. The sample was not cleared and the project was never commercially released.

“Don Henley is apparently intimidated by my rendition of hotel california,” revealed Ocean, who performed the song live during his brief tour last year.

But instead of getting upset over an impending lawsuit, he’s taking it as a compliment. “He threatened to sue if I perform it again. I think that’s fuckin awesome.”

Ocean has been cooking up “sonic goodies” for his first Def Jam release and will appear on Odd Future’s compilation The OF Tape Vol. 2, due March 20.
