Mariah Carey on 'American Idol': 'It Was Like Going to Work in Hell with Satan'

Now that the cameras have stopped rolling, Mariah Carey is getting real about her “American Idol” experience, and she doesn’t have the nicest things to say.

The pop diva sat down with Angie Martinez on Hot 97 earlier this week. Between sips of sparkling cider, she dished about her role as a judge on Fox’s singing competition.

“Honestly, I thought it was gonna be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment,” said Mariah, who was paid a reported $18 million.

She made headlines for her feud with fellow judge Nicki Minaj. “It was like going to work everyday in hell with Satan,” laughed Mariah, adding, “Nah, I’m just playing. It didn’t affect me that much. I was disappointed.”

During the interview, she also revealed that she doesn’t like when Nick Cannon calls himself Mr. Carey. “He uses it for his comedy act, Mr. Showbiz. I hate it when I look at it on TV. I was like, ‘Was that necessary?'”

Nick has been candid about their relationship, but she wishes he would tone it down a little. “I look at certain relationships in the public eye and I go, ‘See that’s class when you don’t need to talk about the relationship that much,'” she said. “I would prefer he silencio just a little bit.”

Mariah is hoping to release her album The Art of Letting Go in February to coincide with Valentine’s Day. In addition to the title track, which made its debut this week, her twins Monroe and Moroccan are featured on a song.
