G-Eazy, Rick Ross Score Top 10 Debuts

  /  12.14.2015

The numbers are officially in, and G-Eazy has landed the highest hip-hop/R&B debut of the week.

The Bay Area rapper enters at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 with his sophomore album When It’s Dark Out, selling 132,000 equivalent albums in its first week. This marks his second top five debut, as last year’s These Things Happen opened at No. 3 with 46,000 units sold.

Rick Ross doesn’t fare as well, coming in at No. 6 with Black Market, which moved 65,000 units, marking his ninth straight album to bow in the top 10. Fellow Def Jam signee Jeremih, who blasted his label for under-shipping his new album Late Nights, moved only 19,000 copies, enough to put him at No. 42.

Elsewhere, J. Cole’s Dreamville compilation, Revenge of the Dreamers II, scored a solid bow at No. 29 with 21,000 copies sold. Curren$y’s Canal St. Confidential came close, selling 200 fewer copies, putting it at No. 30. Kid Cudi rounds out the rap debuts, with 19,000 copies sold of his latest, Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven.

Adele once again remains atop the chart, selling another 728,000 copies of 25, which has crowned the tally for three consecutive weeks.
