Beyoncé on 'Formation': 'I Wanted People to Feel Proud'

  /  02.08.2016

Moments after taking the field with Coldplay and Bruno Mars at Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 halftime show, Beyoncé gave a rare, but brief interview to “Entertainment Tonight.”

While headed backstage after slaying the stage, she spoke out about her unapologetic black anthem “Formation,” which she performed live for the first time at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

“It makes me proud. It’s what I wanted. I wanted people to feel proud, have love for themselves,” Bey told Kevin Frazier of the Mike WiLL Made-It production.

So how did she feel after her second Super Bowl set? “It felt great,” she said, adding, “The best part was seeing Coldplay, for me ’cause I was able to watch from the back and really enjoy it.”

Queen Bey will bring “Formation” to a stadium near you on her upcoming world tour, which kicks off April 27 in Miami.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said that he once presented Beyoncé with a song called “Hook Up,” but she turned it down “in the sweetest possible way: She told me, ‘I really like you—but this is awful.'”

The two did, however, collaborate on Coldplay’s latest single “Hymn for the Weekend” off the band’s album A Head Full of Dreams.
