Dame Dash Says He Could Have Saved Aaliyah's Life

  /  04.19.2016

Fifteen years after Aaliyah’s untimely death at 22, Damon Dash is opening up about the beloved singer’s tragic passing.

During his visit to “The Real,” the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder was asked if there was a chance he would have been on the plane with his then-girlfriend at the time of her death. “There is no chance that if I was there, we would have been on that plane,” he said. “It would’ve never happened that way.”

Aaliyah and eight other passengers died after their small airplane crashed during takeoff while returning from Abaco Island in the Bahamas. She was there to shoot a music video.

“If I was there, I would have made sure that that jet that was supposed to be for her, the G4, she would have been on that,” he added. “I wouldn’t have gotten on that plane. It probably would have been different.”

Watch Dame reflect on Aaliyah’s final days in “The Real” interview below.
