Erykah Badu, Bilal, & The Roots Perform Prince Tribute at BET Awards

  /  06.26.2016

The Roots, Erykah Badu and Bilal paid tribute to the late, great Prince during the 2016 BET Awards, running through a medley of some of his classic cuts.

With a touching introduction from comedian Dave Chappelle, the performance set off with Fat Belly Bella rocking an opulent fur, beret, and tight leather pants to sing “Ballad of Dorothy Parker.” Falsetto crooner Bilal slowed down the tempo for “The Beautiful Ones,” hitting the high notes and dramatically unbuttoning his white button-down shirt as the legendary Roots crew rocked behind him.

The Prince tribute comes in the wake of Madonna and Stevie Wonder’s Prince tribute at the Billboard Music Awards in May. After many criticized the performance for having Madge handle mic duties over artists closer to him, BET aired a commercial that fired shots at the publication, stating, “Yeah, we saw that. Don’t worry. We got you.”
