Watch Chance the Rapper's Gospel-Inspired Grammy Set

  /  02.13.2017

Chance the Rapper brought church to the Grammys on Sunday (Feb. 12), performing a medley of Coloring Book hits with Kirk Franklin, Francis and the Lights, and Tamela Mann.

Beginning with “How Great,” Lil Chano provided impassioned bars about his faith before a gospel choir appeared behind him. From there, the Chi-town MC launched into snippets of “Blessings” and “No Problem” before closing things out with “All We Got.”

Along the way, Chance found support from guests, including frequent collaborator Nico “Trumpet” Segal. After running and jumping across the stage, Chano ended with an appropriate statement for Music’s Biggest Night: “Music is all we got.”

The prayer-filled performance was part of a big night for Chance, who won three Grammys, including Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance for the 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne-assisted “No Problem,” and Best Rap Album for Coloring Book. It was his first time being eligible for the award show due to a new rule that allows free, streaming-only projects to be eligible for recognition.

During his speech for Best New Artist, Chance offered gratitude to those who’ve helped him along the way. “Glory be to God,” he said. “I claim this victory in the name of the Lord. I want to thank God for my mother, my father, who’ve supported me since I was young. For Kiersten, Kensley, all of Chicago, and I want to thank God for putting amazing people in my life.”

Drake also offered his well wishes from overseas, while Chano’s brother Taylor Bennett added: “GRAMMY BOYS!! CONGRATULATIONS @chancetherapper #BLACKBOYJOY.”
