  /  03.18.2017

Music lost an icon when the legendary Chuck Berry, an influential force in rock, hip-hop, and R&B, died on Saturday (March 18) in St. Charles County, Missouri. He was 90.

The St. Charles County Police Department responded to a medical emergency on Buckner Road at around 12:40 p.m. “Inside the home, first responders observed an unresponsive man and immediately administered lifesaving techniques,” read a statement on Facebook. “Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26 p.m.”

Since the 1950s, Berry—born Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr.—crafted a career that would transcend generations with hits like “My Ding-A-Ling,” “Maybellene,” “Carol,” “No Particular Place to Go,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” and “Memphis.” This year, he was slated to release his final album, Chuck.

Berry’s family has requested privacy during their time of bereavement.

Some of today’s stars including Bruno Mars and Q-Tip took to social media to mourn the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer’s loss.
