Donald Glover Teases 'Double Mixtape' with Chance the Rapper

  /  09.18.2017

Donald Glover might be flirting with rap retirement, but the multifaceted star, who won two Emmys for his work on “Atlanta” on Sunday (Sept. 17), isn’t hanging up the mic just yet.

When asked about his musical future, the actor-turned-rapper revealed that he very well could be crafting a long-anticipated project with Chance the Rapper.

“I don’t ever want to do anything because I’m forced to,” he told reporters backstage at the Emmys. “Once you do that, things start to get bad and you jump the shark. Also, I feel like if I don’t make a Chance the Rapper mixtape, like double mixtape, a bunch of 14-year-olds will kick my ass. They stop me on the street and it’s kind of scary. Youth scares me. So I feel like I’ve gotta do something. I probably will.”

Lil Chano retweeted the Childish Gambino press conference interview without comment. In January, the duo also teased a potential collaboration, but details regarding any of their work together remain unclear.

Chance and Glover have worked together in the past. In 2013, they collaborated on “The Worst Guys” and “Favorite Song.” Chance also starred in Gambino’s because the internet screenplay.

The Emmys also included an appearance from Chance, who popped up during host Stephen Colbert’s opening number to rap about social justice and his favorite television shows. “I love television, it’s a pleasant distraction,” he rhymed. “But just imagine taking action / I like ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’; in fact, I’m addicted / But where’s the cop show where one gets convicted? / I miss the classics. I still think ‘MASH’ rocks / But, if Hawkeye can be a soldier, why not Laverne Cox?”

Elsewhere during the Emmys, Chance was nominated for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Last Christmas” on “Saturday Night Live.” However, he lost to Common, Robert Glasper, and Karriem Riggins for their work on “Letter to the Free” from Ava DuVernay’s 13th.
