Video: Fetty Wap & Monty - 'The Race (Remix)'

  /  09.18.2017

Fetty Wap and Monty are the latest rappers to pull inspiration from controversial upstart Tay-K’s breakout single, “The Race.” Today, the duo unleashes a music video for their remix to the buzzworthy track.

The laid-back Rhatigan-directed visual, which features VHS grain and a throwback vibe, finds the Remy Boyz and their friends at a house party, where Monty kicks off the first verse. “I ain’t have it then, but bitch, I got it now,” he raps. “Try to rob me, make ’em dance, Bobby Brown / Pew, pew, pew, love that gun sound / Talking shit just gon’ get you gunned down.”

Surrounded by smoke, Hennessy bottles, and friends, Fetty continues the track with a verse about his money, resilience, and intelligence. “I don’t fold under pressure,” he raps. “My first million that I saw, I invested / Playing chess, but my convo was checkers / On the jet, tell this ni**a to catch up.”

This is just the latest remix for Tay-K’s “The Race,” following versions from Tyga, Lil Yachty, Iamsu!, Chevy Woods, and Slim Jesus, among others. The song is currently No. 44 on the Hot 100, while the 17-year-old rapper awaits trial on capital murder charges.

For his part, Fetty released his Lucky No. 7 mixtape earlier this year and is now prepping his sophomore album, King Zoo.

“This album is more like a love story album,” he said of the follow-up to his 2015 debut. “That’s what people know me for. I make a lot of songs for females. A lot of stuff that I be going through, I just put it in my music. It’s gonna be some good songs and there’s gonna be some different songs. It’s all the Fetty Wap sound.”
