Kevin Gates to Be Released From Prison Next Week

Kevin Gates could be days away from freedom.

The Baton Rouge rhymer is set to be released from prison on Wednesday (Jan. 10), according to Lindsey Hess from the Illinois Department of Corrections. Gates will be out on parole with conditions including mandatory supervision and no possession of firearms, Hess told TMZ.

It’s been an ongoing legal saga for Gates, who served five months of his six-month sentence in a Florida prison for kicking a female fan in the chest. An outstanding weapons-related warrant was uncovered just as he was being released, forcing him to return to prison for an additional 30 months.

In the middle of his sentence, Gates penned a letter to his fans about the “hardship” he was going through. “Disallow yourselves to be troubled in my time of absence,” he wrote. “All of the great ones who came before and will come after me have had to go through this. By this, I’m speaking in reference to hardship.”

Being locked behind bars didn’t stop Gates from releasing new music. In September, he dropped By Any Means 2, the sequel to 2014’s original. While Gates was incarcerated, his wife Dreka Gates took control of his career and was reportedly responsible for BAM2’s release.
