Lil Wayne Performs 'Dedicate' on 'The Tonight Show'

  /  10.03.2018

Hot off the release of his new album Tha Carter V, Lil Wayne returned to late night as a guest and performer.

During a visit to “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday (Oct. 2), Weezy spoke with Jimmy Fallon about the long delay and legal battle leading up to Tha Carter V. “It was business,” said Wayne, who let his team handle it. “Kinda over my head at times. I’m a real musician. I’m an artist.”

He passed the time by working, skating, and taking care of his four kids. “I’m so into what I’m doing every day, meaning my craft, that when I have to go too far into something else, I put somebody else in charge of it when there was somebody else in charge of it that messes up, then everything blows up,” he said. “And that’s how everything blew up. We just needed the debris to clear.”

During the interview, he also spoke about his love for skating and explained how he doesn’t write anything down when he records. In fact, he has to remind himself of the lyrics by reading them.

After learning the lyrics during rehearsals earlier in the day, Tunechi hit the stage to perform “Dedicate” for the first time. With some help from The Roots, Weezy lived up to his GOAT status, delivering his spitfire rhymes.

“Worth the wait,” said Fallon as Wayne smiled.

Tha Carter V is expected to debut at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200 with over 450,000 equivalent album units and over 400 million on-demand audio streams, which would make it the third-largest streaming week ever for an album.
