A$AP Rocky's Lawyer Refutes Reports of 'Inhumane' Prison Conditions

A$AP Rocky remains in a Swedish jail after he was arrested for his alleged involvement in a street brawl.

Earlier this week, TMZ reported that the Harlem rapper was being kept in inhumane conditions, including “wretched” food and “disease-ridden” facilities that are not fit for humans. According to sources, he is sleeping on a yoga mat with no blankets and there are feces that are not cleaned up.

On Thursday (July 11), Rocky’s lawyer Henrik Olsson Lilja denied the allegations in a statement to Swedish media outlet SVT Nyheter (via The FADER).

Lilja says that Rocky was “treated properly” by Swedish jail authorities. TMZ cited a U.S. Embassy official who claimed the jail was “like walking into a toilet.” Rocky’s lawyer says his client smelled urine in his holding cell when he arrived, but there are no such conditions in his current detention.

According to Lilja, Rocky “tries to eat to the best of his ability” despite reports that the water is unsafe for drinking and the food is not edible.

“He has never talked to TMZ or any third party regarding the circumstances when he was arrested, i.e. when he was in the prison,” says Lilja in a statement. “He was then treated and treated properly. However, he has experienced the conditions in the arrest as very simple and has experienced that it smells urine in the cell in the arrest. However, not in detention. The conditions in the arrest cell can in that respect be criticized.”

The 30-year-old MC is being held in custody for two weeks while prosecutors decide whether to charge him for aggravated assault stemming from the street brawl, despite video showing the alleged victim harassing and attacking Rocky.

His peers including Diddy, Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, and Meek Mill have signed a petition for his release, which currently has over 515,000 signatures. Tyga also canceled his show in Sweden in solidarity with Rocky.
